Things on Freeways
This morning as I was driving down The 805 South to work, at my usual pace of 80-90 mph (just going w/ traffic), I had to dodge 5 large pink cylinders--packages of packing-peanuts. They had come flying off a pickup truck, the driver of which did not notice he was losing his load til the last of the 5 came off, several miles after the first went flying.
A friend from the Bay Area tells me that the fines for driving w/ an uncovered load are pretty steep in CA. They must not get much enforcement down here, though, as I see uncovered, or so-poorly-covered-as-to-be-a-joke, loads all the time. The worst offenders are the landscaping companies' trucks, w/ rakes and hoes everywhich way and limbs and branches and bark chips flying off.
